Taiwan Reception Room

These are carvings of bamboo roots and soft stones and those are Fujian lacquer wares.

The painting on the screen depicts a warm welcome given by the people on Taiwan Island to Zheng Chenggong, a national hero who recovered the island from the Dutch in 1661.

On the wall are landscape oil paintings of Ali Mountain, the Jade Mountain, the Sun and Moon Lake and Shuhua Highway.

This screen bears a passage quoted from Chinese classics stating that Taiwan has been a part of China since ancient times. The calligraphy is done by Yu Liqun, widow of Guo Moruo.

When the People’s Congress is in session, the provincial reception rooms are used for group discussions by deputies representing the respective regions. They are also used for receiving foreign guests, holding official talks and small banquets.
