Sources from the Zhongguancun Science and Technology Park Management Commission said that the government controls big construction projects in the Zhongguancun Park to avoid excessive increases of land transfer fees in this area. The Zhongguancun area is no longer famous for its academic institutes and colleges, but its reputation now standing out, as it grows into one of the most famous high-tech centres in Chin, nicknamed China’s Sillicon Valley. It has attracted the attention of many real estate developers since the State Council approved a plan to set up the park in June 1999. A dozen large office buildings are now under construction, and more than 20 apartment buildings are prepar-ing to break ground. Land resources in the Zhongguancun area are becoming increasingly scarce. Sources said the Beijing municipal government has asked related departments to work out a construction plan for the Zhongguancun Science and Technology Park. All the real estate projects of the Zhongguancun area are expecting to be included in it. No new apartment projects will be approved in the core area of Zhongguancun to control the population density of this region.
