Miyun Canal is 102 kilometres long, completed in 1966. The water comes from Miyun Reservoir which lies on the northeastern outskirts of Beijing and has a capacity of 43 hundred million cubic metres. Since1949, 86 reservoirs with varying capacity have been built and thou-sands of power-operated wells have been sunk in Beijing area.
The construction of the canal has not only relieved the northern part of Beijing from the threat of drought and flood but also ensured water for power stations, afforestation and industrial and household use in the city.
