Chuandixia

Chuandixia is one of the most popular Beijing Sightseeing,  a late Ming and early Qing Dynasty village in the mountains of Mentougou. Time stopped here some 400 years ago. There are only a dozen or so remaining households of the original 80, and all the villagers go under the name of Han. The old stone houses are spacious, with red pepper and garlic hanging from the windows and doors, and corn is drying on the roofs. The old fashioned windows are glassless. In the winter, which is bitterly cold here, they are covered by several layers of paper. These houses still have the old fashioned brick kang beds that are heated from below. This is where the whole family congregates in the winter
