China Radio International Building, the overseas radio service of the People’s Republic of China, built in 1955. It was inaugurated on September 11, 1947 when its English language service began (the English service then was a part of the Northern Shaanxi New China Broadcasting Station).
The Radio broadcasts worldwide in 38 foreign languages, Mandarin and four local Chinese dialects of Guangzhou (Canton), Hakka, Amoy and Chaozhou for a total of 146 hours daily. Its English Service for foreigners in Beijing has been on the air since the beginning of1984.
Now, the Radio has become the third-largest overseas radio station in the world in terms of the number of languages and the amount of time it broadcasts. It has over 100 million listeners in over 180countries around the world.
