The construction of Central Opera Troupe Theatre started in October 1986 and the theatre was completed in 1989. It covers an area of 18,000square metres. Its stage can be lifted, lowered, or revolved with all mechanical facilities controlled by computers. It was designed by a design research institute under the Commission of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defence. The Theatre of the Central Opera Troupe was the first modern theatre designed and constructed by China herself.
