One cannot help but notice the National Gallery of China, a large traditional-style building at the top of Wangfujing. This edifice was constructed in 1959 and is considered one of socialist China’s 10 best architectural designs. It was entirely refurbished in 1991. The large central building is flanked on either side by long corridors and adjoining wings. Yellow glazed tiles, sloping roofs and upturned eaves lend this building an air of dignity and reserve. There are 14 exhibition rooms and several studios where artists can work.

This gallery holds an increasing number of interesting national and international exhibits and is a good place to discover some of the emerging trends in China’s rapidly evolving art world. Many of the works exhibited can be purchased from the artist. Enquiries about how to purchase a painting can be made at the sales shop located in the west wing. National Art Museum of China is open everyday until 5.00 p.m. and tickets can be purchased until 4.30 p.m.

Exhibitions are held from time to rime at the Nationalities Cultural Palace (MinZu Wenhua Gong), Fuxingmennei Dajie.
