CCTV(China Central Television) transmits to every part of the country. It transmits in colour on three channels. The first, beamed to the entire country, broadcasts every day for about fifteen hours, and also on Sunday mornings and afternoons. The second channel transmits only to the Beijing area. CCTVexchanges film programmes with television net-works of some 50 countries. The third channel began in January 1986. It offers mainly educational and sports programmes.
